Assessing the safety of road infrastructure
Directive 2008/96/EC of the EP and the Council of 19/11/2008 on the management of road infrastructure safety, as amended, obliges administrators of important road networks to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the safety of road infrastructure and safety analysis on land roads that are part of the trans-European road networks, highways, expressways and other main roads of the first class.
In addition, the said directive requires all Member States to extend an independent assessment of the safety of the road network to all roads on which traffic accidents resulting in death or serious injury have taken place and are taking place. In the conditions of the Slovak Republic, it is mainly roads I., II. and III. classes. One of the appropriate forms of fulfilling this directive is the use of globally proven iRAP methodologies.
EuroRAP SLAIN (Saving Lives Assessing and Improving) project
EP Directive No. 2019/1936 on road safety management mandates that EU member states pay special attention to the readability and recognizability of traffic signs for the upcoming automated driving assistance systems. For this purpose, the EuroRAP SLAIN project was implemented in 2021 with draft recommendations for future traffic marking standards for integrated traffic systems.
