ViDA Software – The Digital Core of the iRAP Methodology

The International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) is a global leader in evaluating road infrastructure safety. As part of its operations, iRAP uses the certified ViDA software, a key tool for comprehensive processing and analysis of road safety data.

ViDA is designed to support the entire iRAP methodology process – from field data collection to outputs such as investment recommendations and star ratings for road safety. It fully complies with internationally recognized standards and enables consistent, comparable, and objective evaluations of road infrastructure.

What is ViDA and What is it Used For?

ViDA (Visualize, Decide, Act) is iRAP’s online platform that enables users to:

  • process large volumes of data from road network monitoring,

  • assess safety levels for all road users – drivers, cyclists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians,

  • visualize results in an intuitive format (maps, charts, reports),

  • identify high-risk sections and propose cost-effective measures for their improvement,

  • develop Safer Roads Investment Plans (SRIPs).

SR4D – Star Ratings Already at the Design Stage

One of ViDA's most important features is the ability to conduct SR4D (Star Rating for Design), which allows for the safety evaluation of road designs at the planning stage. This makes it possible to:

  • assess safety parameters of planned infrastructure before construction,

  • identify potential risks and propose design changes based on safe design principles,

  • ensure that new roads meet iRAP’s minimum safety standards (e.g., at least 3 stars for each type of road user),

  • optimize project costs while maximizing the impact of investments on reducing road crashes.

Benefits of Using ViDA and SR4D

  • International methodology – provides standardized, comparable, and transparent infrastructure assessments.

  • Decision-making support– assists road authorities, designers, and investors in making informed decisions.

  • Risk prevention – early identification of design shortcomings helps reduce future reconstruction and crash-related costs.

  • Funding support – ViDA outputs are accepted by many international institutions, including the World Bank, EIB, and regional donors.

  • Cloud-based solution – enables real-time data access and collaboration across organizations.

ViDA in Slovakia

Thanks to its licensed membership in EuroRAP, the national iRAP representative Autoclub can apply the ViDA platform within the Slovak Republic. We collaborate with public authorities, designers, and technical partners on:

  • assessing existing roads using the iRAP methodology,

  • auditing new projects through SR4D,

  • planning strategic investments in infrastructure safety.

Star Rating For Schools

Star Rating for Schools (SR4S)

A Global Initiative for Safer School Zones

The Star Rating for Schools (SR4S) program, developed by the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP), is a data-driven, evidence-based tool designed to improve road safety for children on their journey to and from school.

Why SR4S Matters

Every day, millions of children are exposed to unsafe road conditions near schools. SR4S helps local communities identify risks and implement solutions that save lives.

SR4S assessments focus on key safety factors:

  • Traffic speed and volume

  • Visibility of pedestrian crossings

  • Quality of sidewalks and cycling paths

  • Road signage and signals

  • Presence of school patrols or warning systems

What SR4S Delivers

SR4S results help communities design and prioritize impactful safety improvements, including:

  • Lower speed limits in school zones

  • Safer pedestrian crossings and refuge islands

  • Physical separation of children from motor traffic

  • Warning signage and traffic lights

All recommendations are tailored to maximize safety and accessibility, especially for the most vulnerable road users – children.

SR4S in Slovakia

As a certified member of the iRAP network, Autoclub is authorized to implement the SR4S methodology nationwide. We work closely with local governments and schools to:

  • Map high-risk school zones

  • Propose targeted safety measures

  • Support funding applications for infrastructure upgrades

CycleRAP

Safe Cycling Infrastructure for Everyone

CycleRAP is the latest tool developed by the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP), designed specifically to assess risk levels and safety of cycling infrastructure. Its mission is to support cities, towns, planners, and investors in creating and improving safe routes for cyclists – one of the most vulnerable groups on our roads.

What Is CycleRAP?

CycleRAP is an analytical model and digital tool that allows users to:

  • Evaluate existing cycling infrastructure (bike paths, shared roads, cycle lanes)

  • Determine risk levels for cyclists across different surface types and segments

  • Analyze conflicts with motor vehicles, pedestrians, and parked cars

  • Propose targeted interventions to reduce crash risk

  • Track the effectiveness of safety improvements over time

CycleRAP is ideal for strategic planning and supports the development of sustainable urban mobility.

Why CycleRAP Was Created

Cycling has experienced rapid growth in recent years due to climate concerns, traffic congestion, and increasing interest in healthy lifestyles. However, this growth has been accompanied by rising numbers of accidents – especially in areas lacking proper infrastructure.

CycleRAP is built on the same core principles as other iRAP methodologies. It provides data-based, objective, and comparable outputs to support informed decisions about infrastructure investments.

What Factors Does CycleRAP Assess?

CycleRAP evaluates dozens of key elements, including:

  • Type and width of cycling infrastructure (segregated path, bike lane, shared walkway)

  • Surface type and quality (asphalt, cobblestones, unpaved terrain)

  • Visibility and lighting

  • Conflict points (intersections, driveways, parking zones)

  • Behavior and movement of other road users

  • Traffic signage and signals

  • Traffic density and vehicle speed near cyclists

Digital Output & Decision-Making Support

CycleRAP provides color-coded risk visualizations and detailed reports for each infrastructure segment. These results can be used to:

  • Integrate into urban development and land-use plans

  • Support applications for EU funds or national infrastructure grants

  • Monitor the effectiveness of safety investments

  • Facilitate communication among municipalities, experts, and the public

Benefits of CycleRAP

  • Objective risk evaluation without requiring crash data

  • Location-specific recommendations for high-risk areas

  • Support for inclusive and sustainable mobility

  • Easy monitoring of the impact of safety measures

  • Seamless integration with other iRAP tools like ViDA, Star Rating for Schools, or Star Rating for Design

CycleRAP in Slovakia

As a member of the international iRAP network, Autoclub Slovakia has access to the CycleRAP methodology and offers its use across the country. In cooperation with local governments, traffic experts, and cycling development organizations, we can:

  • Analyze high-risk segments of existing cycling infrastructure

  • Recommend safety improvements already during the planning stage

  • Support the growth of safe and attractive cycling networks for all
